An opening that ended in closure

 

Participé ayer a la misa de apertura del sínodo desde las sillas del fondo de la plaza de san Pedro del Vaticano, en medio de mi querido pueblo y disfrutando viendo la fe de las gentes sencillas, comprobando como todavía queda esperanza y alegría en tantas y ya no en otras.

Yesterday I participated in the opening Mass of the synod from the chairs at the back of St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, in the midst of my beloved people and enjoying seeing the faith of simple people, seeing how there is still hope and joy in so many and no longer in others.

 

Asisto al llamado sínodo de la sombra para dar voz al colectivo que aquí represento: la Asociación de mujeres presbíteras romanas.

I attend the so-called synod of the shadow to give voice to the collective that I represent here: the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.

 

Dicha representación consta de acciones sencillas y pacíficas para llevar a la visibilización de nuestros ministerios y dar testimonio, en la realidad del común de los mortales, de que también queda ansia de compartir eso que “nos quema por dentro”  y nos da la vida : el seguimiento de Jesús que envió a la samaritana a anunciar que era el mesías a la gente de su aldea y a Magdalena a proclamar su resurrección a sus hermanos. Ese seguimiento, ese nombre santo lo es todo para nosotras. Es nuestro aliento, nuestra fuerza, nuestro horizonte y único propósito como Quién es : el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida.

This representation consists of simple and peaceful actions to make our ministries visible and to bear witness, in the reality of ordinary mortals, that there is also a desire to share that which "burns us inside" and gives us life: the following of Jesus who sent the Samaritan woman to announce that he was the messiah to the people of her village and Magdalene to proclaim his resurrection to her people. siblings. That following, that holy name is everything to us. It is our breath, our strength, our horizon and only purpose as Who is: the Way, the Truth and the Life.

 

Por ello opté por unirme con un grupo de mujeres valientes y fuertes en la fe, capaces de amar hasta dejarse excluir y castigar por un sistema ya condenado y que urge reformar. Si, urge. Están en juego vidas de pequeños y pequeñas. Juntas caminamos, mujeres y varones de buena voluntad que trabajamos por el Reino con los instrumentos pequeños y pacíficos: la palabra y los símbolos, la oración...

That is why I chose to join with a group of courageous and strong women in the faith, capable of loving to the point of being excluded and punished by a system already condemned and that urgently needs to be reformed. Yes, urgently. The lives of little boys and girls are at stake. Together we walk, women and men of good will who work for the Kingdom with small and peaceful instruments: word and symbols, prayer...

 

De modo que ayer, para que la gente supiera que tenía a su lado a una presbítera católica, me revestí con el alba (la túnica a la que toda persona bautizada tiene derecho) y la estola que me identifica como obediente a la orden de servir a mis hermanas y hermanos “dadles vosotros de comer”

So yesterday, to let people know that I had a Catholic priest by her side, I put on the alba (the robe to which every baptized person is entitled) and the stole that identifies me as obedient to the command to serve my sisters and brothers.

 

Surgió un policía, que llamó a más policías y terminé en dependencias policiales de la policía italiana que dio por sentado que una mujer no podía ser presbítera y que estaba usurpando un “hábito talar” (sic). El resto de uniformes y hábitos que poblaba la plaza a aquellas horas no les pareció sospechoso. Después de tres horas y media de deliberaciones para las que llegaron a estar presente hasta ocho agentes todos masculinos, decidieron aplicarme una sanción en concepto de multa y confiscación de los dichos hábitos.

A policeman emerged, who called more policemen and I ended up in Italian police stations who assumed that a woman could not be a priest and that she was usurping a "talar habit" (sic). The rest of the uniforms and habits that populated the square at that time did not seem suspicious to them. After three and a half hours of deliberations for which up to eight male officers were present, they decided to apply a sanction to me in the form of a fine and confiscation of the said habits.

 

Me liberaron sin saber que ya hace largo tiempo me liberó Cristo, en especial cierto día en que a él también le castigaron por decir quien era y le quitaron sus ropas... se nota que el estamento farisaico no ha perdido las buenas costumbres. El acudir a la fuerza extranjera para ejecutar sus tareas sucias e injustas, violando libertades de expresión entre otras me resulta familiar.

They released me without knowing that Christ set me free a long time ago, especially one day when he too was punished for saying who he was and his clothes were taken away. It is noticeable that the Pharisaic establishment has not lost good manners. Resorting to foreign force to perform their dirty and unjust tasks, violating freedom of expression among others is familiar to me.

 

Me encuentro en paz, con un largo programa de palabra y acciones por delante con un nutrido grupo de compañeras y compañeros con quienes caminaré, cantaré, oraré, pensaré estos días. Doy fe de que este sínodo lo vamos a bordar y ya se verá de qué parte está la sombra.

I find myself at peace, with a long program of words and actions ahead with a large group of comrades with whom I will walk, sing, pray, think these days. I attest that we are going to embroider this synod and we will see on which side the shadow is.

 

Desde el corazón de quién se llama madre iglesia os envío bendiciones y toda clase de deseos de paz y bien, cariños incontables y una mirada ancha y amigable “benévola y acogedora” como pidió en papa en su homilía. 

From the heart of one who is called mother church I send you blessings and all kinds of wishes for peace and goodness, countless affections and a broad and friendly look "benevolent and welcoming" as the pope asked in his homily.
